Man treated for flesh-eating disease

May 22, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of necrotising fasciitis, or flesh-eating disease, involving a 66-year-old man with underlying illness.

He was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on May 17 with pain in his left leg and a fever, and an infection was found. Surgery was performed to remove the dead tissue in his leg on the same day. His left calf was later removed.

His left leg had been injured by a fish in a wet market on May 16.

He is currently in the intensive care unit in serious condition.
