Public housing rent to rise 10%
May 22, 2012
The Housing Authority's Subsidised Housing Committee today endorsed a 10% rise in public housing rent.
Some committee members said they would like to consider whether a special relief measure will be necessary due to the uncertain economic outlook.
The committee has asked the Housing Department to submit a follow-up paper for members' consideration at the next meeting on May 24.
The law states a rent rise should follow income growth but cannot exceed 10%.
A Census & Statistics Department survey found the average monthly household income of about 48,000 households sampled between 2009 and last year rose 16.24%.
