Meat samples fail safety check
May 21, 2012
Thirteen meat samples have failed Centre for Food Safety tests.
Eleven beef and two pork samples contained sulphur dioxide, a preservative not permitted to be used in fresh, chilled or frozen meat.
Based on the levels detected, normal consumption should not pose adverse health effects. For people allergic to the preservative , there may be symptoms like breathing difficulty, headache and nausea.
The centre has issued warning letters to the shop operators who sold the unsatisfactory samples.
