May 15, 2012
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a case of Legionnaires' disease involving a 73-year-old man.
The man, with chronic illness, developed a cough and shortness of breath since May 10. He was admitted to Ruttonjee Hospital on May 12 and diagnosed with pneumonia. His condition is now stable.
A lab test showed he was infected with Legionella bacteria.
He had travelled to Guangzhou from May 1 to 3.
It is the eighth case of Legionnaires' disease reported this year. There were 17 cases in 2011, and 20 in 2010.
