3 new family centres to open

April 05, 2012
The Social Welfare Department will open three more Integrated Family Service Centres in Kowloon and the New Territories in the first quarter of 2013.

Director of Social Welfare Patrick Nip made the announcement while inspecting a family service centre in Kowloon City today.

"This development will provide more effective support to individuals and families in preparing themselves for various challenges and overcoming their problems," he said.

There are 62 family service centres - 40 operated by the department and 22 by nine non-governmental organisations. The number will increase to 65 when the new centres come into operation.

One catering to Kowloon City and Yau Tsim Mong District will be operated by the department, while the other two in Kwun Tong and Yuen Long will be run by NGOs.

Mr Nip said the department decided on the locations by taking into consideration a number of social indicators and the service demand of each district, such as projected population growth and population profiles.
