Man ill with meningococcal infection

The Centre for Health Protection is investigating a confirmed case of invasive meningococcal infection involving a 55-year-old North District man with a chronic medical condition.
The man felt knee pain and swelling on February 7 and was admitted to North District Hospital the next day.
Lab test confirmed his illness. His condition is stable.
The patient has no recent travel history and his home contacts are normal.
