Pregnant Mainlander crackdown to continue
February 08, 2012
Government departments will continue tackling the problem of pregnant Mainland women coming to Hong Kong to give birth without a hospital booking, Secretary for Home Affairs Tsang Tak-sing says.
Mr Tsang told lawmakers today the Home Affairs Department's Office of the Licensing Authority is cracking down on unlicensed guesthouses near Kwong Wah Hospital that offer accommodation to pregnant Mainland women, he said.
An investigation found a Mainlander had been in breach of her conditions of stay and prosecution action has been implemented.
More medical staff will be sent to control points to help immigration officers check non-local women, while Police will continue to work with Mainland authorities to combat cross-boundary agencies’ illegal practices.
