Dead bird tests positive for virus

February 06, 2012
A dead Oriental magpie robin found in Tuen Mun has been confirmed to be H5N1 positive, the Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department says.

The carcass was found at Shun Tak Fraternal Association Ho Yat Tung Primary School in Tuen Mun on January 30 and the H5N1 avian influenza test was confirmed today.

The department has reminded the school to step up cleaning and disinfection. A check of a nearby chicken farm found no abnormal deaths or bird-flu symptoms.

The department has reminded poultry farmers, bird-shop owners and pet poultry and racing pigeon licence holders to take precautions to prevent their birds from getting the disease.
