Dead bird H5-positive

A little egret carcass found in Yuen Long has tested positive for the H5 avian influenza virus in a preliminary examination.
 
The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said today the bird was found outside the Yuen Long Office of its Wetland & Fauna Conservation (Enforcement) Section in Nam Sang Wai on January 12.
 
The department has stepped up cleansing and disinfection of the office.
 
Two chicken farms are within 3km of the scene. The department has found no abnormal deaths or symptoms among the chickens.
 
The department has issued advisories to poultry farmers, pet shops, and licence holders of pet poultry and racing pigeons.
