Yuen Long dead bird H5N1 positive

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said today a Black-headed gull found in Yuen Long tested positive for H5N1 after a series of laboratory tests.
 
The sick wild bird was found and collected at Chiu Lut Sau Memorial Secondary School, 7 Tai Yuk Road, Yuen Long, on December 13. It died the next day. The black-headed gull is a common winter visitor.
 
The department will continue to conduct inspections of poultry farms and the wholesale market to ensure proper precautions against bird flu have been implemented.
 
People should avoid personal contact with wild birds or live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly if they do come into contact with them.
