Antibiotic approved:  The Department of Health has allowed GlaxoSmithKline to reintroduce Augmentin tablets, both 375mg and 1g, in Hong Kong.

Sale of recalled antibiotic to resume

December 16, 2011
The Department of Health has allowed GlaxoSmithKline to reintroduce Augmentin tablets, both 375mg and 1g, in Hong Kong.

Augmentin is an antibiotic, which can only be sold by prescription and under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Following the recall of Augmentin tablets in July (375mg) and August (625mg and 1g) due to the presence of plasticisers, GSK conducted an investigation and found the plasticisers were probably coming from plastic tubing that came in contact with the materials for producing the tablets in its UK plant.

The company has taken corrective action, and the department has cleared the products' reintroduction.
