2 ill after eating puffer fish

November 24, 2011
The Centre for Health Protection is investigating the poisoning of two people who ate puffer fish.

They fell ill after consuming a puffer fish caught by their friend for dinner on November 23.

The 57-year-old woman and 53-year-old man are in stable condition in Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

The centre called on people not to consume puffer fish because it contains tetrodotoxin, a heat-stable toxin that does not decompose with cooking.
