Fresh mushrooms recalled

July 28, 2011
The Centre for Food Safety today urged people to stop consuming certain kinds of fresh mushrooms sold at some retail outlets, as they are believed to have been tainted by toxic mushrooms.

The centre received notifications from the Centre for Health Protection yesterday and today about three food poisoning cases involving six people, which were suspected to have been caused by consuming fresh mushrooms. Six samples of fresh mushrooms were collected for testing.

The six samples were fresh Matsutake, fresh Catathelasma ventricosum, fresh Pseudohydum gelatinosum, fresh Termitomyces albuminosus, fresh red, and fresh yellow, porcini mushrooms.

The mushrooms were imported by Luen Kee Hoo Company and were sold between July 21 and 27 at Sogo in Causeway Bay, Apita in Taikoo and City’super in Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Central and Sha Tin.

The company said they are recalling the products and have set up an enquiry hotline (2548 7670).
