More than 230,000 low-income families will receive a one-off allowance of $6,000 in November, under a Community Care Fund proposal.
The fund's Executive Committee Chairman Dr Law Chi-kwong said today, if approved, the allowance will provide new arrivals from low-income families, who have entered Hong Kong for settlement, additional resources to help them integrate with the community.
He said $1.5 billion will be sought from the Legislative Council to finance the move.
