Woman arrested for false organic labelling

June 28, 2011
Customs officers have arrested Tin Hau shop manager, seizing more than 100 catties of vegetables falsely claimed to be organic, worth about $1,140.

On June 22 the department received a complaint the shop was selling vegetables falsely claimed to be produce from an organic farm registered with the Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre.

The shop was found to be displaying prominently a copy of a Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre certificate stating the vegetables were produced on a certified Yuen Long farm.

Investigations revealed the vegetables actually came from Cheung Sha Wan Vegetable Wholesale Market and the Fruit Wholesale Market in Yau Ma Tei.

The woman manager, 31, has been released on bail.
