Four of the 4,300 items tested by the Centre for Food Safety in February failed food safety checks, representing a pass rate of 99.9%.
In its latest food safety report published today, the centre said a fresh beef sample contained illicit preservative sulphur dioxide, while a frozen suckling pig sample contained antibiotic sulfonamides exceeding the legal limit.
The centre also found a sample of dried abalone to contain sulphur dioxide exceeding the legal limit. It was collected at import level and no affected products have entered the local market.
Lastly, a hotpot soup base contained illicit colouring matter Orange II.
