The Immigration Department controls the movement of people into and out of Hong Kong. It also issues HKSAR passports and other travel documents, visas and identity cards, and handles nationality matters and the registration of births, deaths and marriages.

Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department is responsible for the secure, orderly and efficient production and marketing of agricultural and fishery produce; enforcing regulations on plants, pesticides and animal controls; and conserving our natural environment and safeguarding the ecological integrity.

Water Supplies Department

The Water Supplies Department provides a reliable and adequate supply of wholesome potable water and sea water in the most cost-effective way.

No irregularities detected in radiation level

Government departments have been tracking the radiation levels of fresh water in Hong Kong, and food and imported products from Japan, and had detected no irregularities in the last 24 hours up to noon today.

 

Test results from the Water Supplies Department show no observable change in the radioactivity level of all samples of Dongjiang water supplied to Hong Kong, raw water from impounding reservoirs and fresh water . The radiological quality of fresh water remains normal and safe.

 

Customs has checked 1,574 air consignments and 44 sea containers, including two consignments of pharmaceutical products and seven consignments of cosmetics - and found no irregularities.

 

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department continues to collect samples from local fish culture zones and fish wholesale markets under the Fish Marketing Organisation for radiological testing on a daily basis. Results of all collected samples were satisfactory.

   

The Centre for Food Safety has examined 68 food samples imported from Japan in the past 24 hours, including 22 samples by air and 46 samples by sea. Samples examined included aquatic products, vegetables, fruits, drinks and others. All were satisfactory.

 

The Immigration Department has not received any new request for assistance. Three people believed to be in Japan still cannot be contacted. The department will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action as needed.
