Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival

Grand opening:  Chief Executive Donald Tsang (centre) and guests officiate at the opening of the exhibition of the animated version of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival.

Digital painting expo opens

November 08, 2010

Chief Executive Donald Tsang opened the exhibition of the animated version of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival at AsiaWorld-Expo today. The show will run until November 29.

The classic painting has been digitally animated and is displayed on 12 high-resolution projectors.

To vividly illustrate the commercial activities depicted in the scene, the animated version has specially-created night scenery. The scene is portrayed in day-to-night cycles lasting four minutes, with a dramatic interplay of light and colour.

Additional elements of history, culture, art and education are incorporated in the exhibition. These include an introduction to the significance of the painting in Chinese culture and art, and information about the conception and production of the animated version. The exhibition allows visitors to learn more about the urban outlook, people's daily lives, and the science and technology of the Song Dynasty period.

A lecture series will be held during the exhibition period at the venue. They are free and conducted in Putonghua.

The exhibition will be open 10am to 11pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 11pm on Sundays and Saturdays. Each viewing session will last an hour. Tickets have sold out. Those who have secured tickets are advised to visit the exhibition at the scheduled session as printed on the ticket.

People using the Airport Express to get to the venue can purchase same-day-return tickets for $48 at Hong Kong or Kowloon Stations. They can also enjoy return-trip discounts by taking the MTR Tung Chung Line and CityBus airport buses.
