HKMTV granted new transmission standard

July 13, 2017

The Communications Authority has approved Hong Kong Mobile Television to switch to a new transmission standard for TV reception by portable or mobile devices.

HKMTV was awarded an amended licence by the authority today to change its transmission standard to Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial 2 (DVB-T2) for the provision of its mobile TV service.

HKMTV, a subsidiary of Hong Kong Television Network, planned to switch to the Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting standard before, but its proposal was rejected by the authority.

It later applied for the switch to DVB-T2 and submitted a technical proposal last month, pledging to adopt the detailed transmission arrangements, system parameters and technical specifications to ensure its service will comply with the Broadcasting Ordinance and the Telecommunications Ordinance.

The authority approved the application after reviewing the technical proposal.
