Professional services scheme to start

November 23, 2016

The Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme will be open for applications tomorrow, the Government announced today.

The scheme provides funding support to non-profit-making projects led by the professional services industry to enhance co-operation with overseas counterparts.

It is also open to projects that seek to step up the industry’s standards and competitiveness.

The $200-million scheme was announced by the Chief Executive in the 2016 Policy Address and was approved by the Legislative Council in July.

Non-profit-distributing professional, trade or industrial organisations, as well as research institutes, can apply for funding.

Each project will receive up to 90% of the total eligible cost, or $3 million, whichever is lower.

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau said the higher percentage of government contribution will encourage more organisations, especially those with lesser means, to undertake projects that will benefit the sector.

There will be four rounds of applications a year. Urgent applications outside the normal application period can be considered if justified.

The deadline for the first tranche of applications is February 28.

A vetting committee will be formed to assess applications and monitor approved projects.
