InnoTech chief visits Silicon Valley

Tech tour:  Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang (right) tours the Facebook campus in Silicon Valley.

Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang visited major technology firms Facebook and 500 Startups in Silicon Valley yesterday.

 

He met Facebook's Vice President of International & Policy Communications Debbie Frost, saying it can leverage Hong Kong's competitive edge to further enhance its business, adding he looks forward to collaborating to help Hong Kong start-ups grow their businesses globally.

 

Mr Yang then attended a lunch with the Hong Kong Association of Northern California.

 

He said the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government is determined to develop Hong Kong's innovation and technology industries to boost the city's competitiveness and improve quality of life.

 

He then met Chinese Deputy-Consul General in San Francisco Deng Fanhua and the consulate's Science & Technology Counsellor Wang Junming.

 

Mr Yang later met Director of Civic Innovation Partnerships under the San Francisco Mayor's Office Jeremy Goldberg to discuss the city government's initiatives to foster collaboration between start-ups and government departments.

 

Mr Yang then visited 500 Startups, a global venture capital seed fund and start-up accelerator based in Silicon Valley, and met with 500 Startups partner Edith Yeung.

 

He also met members of the Hong Kong community in the Bay Area who are academics and technology entrepreneurs and executives. He encouraged them to explore the opportunities presented by the burgeoning start-up scene in Hong Kong.

 

Mr Yang will attend a breakfast meeting with venture capitalists and angel investors and visit WeWork San Francisco tomorrow.
