Tourism plan set for golden week

September 28, 2016

The Tourism Commission, in co-operation with government departments and related organisations, has drawn up measures to cope with the tourist flow between Hong Kong and the Mainland during the National Day Golden Week.

Manpower at control points and co-ordination on cross-boundary transport services will be enhanced during the week from October 1, the commission announced today.

The Joint Command Centre set up by the Immigration Department and Police will be activated to monitor land control points and carry out contingency action where necessary.

The Tourism Commission will stay in touch with Guangdong and Shenzhen tourism authorities according to the mechanism, for information exchange and emergency handling.

To avoid congestion during the morning and evening peak hours at various boundary control points, travellers are advised to cross the boundary at less busy hours.

The Customs & Excise Department and Police will step up inspections of retail shops targeting Mainland group tours.

The Travel Industry Council will deploy additional manpower to make inspections and offer assistance to tourists and guides.

The operating hours of Tourism Board's hotline will also be extended.

For enquiries, please call the Travel Industry Council at 2807 0707, the Tourism Board at 2508 1234 or the Consumer Council at 2929 2222.
