Spotlight session:  Mr Yang (right) joins a panel discussion on the globalisation of start-up ecosystems at the Pioneers Festival.

Secretary for Innovation & Technology Nicholas Yang and Austrian Federal Ministry of Science, Research & Economy State Secretary Harald Mahrer signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Vienna today boosting co-operation in technology start-up ecosystems.

 

Hong Kong and Austria will strengthen co-operation between technology start-ups, incubators and early-stage investors by facilitating the networking of all target groups and providing relevant information for them.

 

They also agreed to collaborate in exchanging local market expertise and knowledge as well as facilitation of the internationalisation efforts of technology start-ups in the respective markets.

 

Mr Yang started the second day of his visit to Vienna by visiting SeniorTab to study Austria’s smart city initiatives to promote ageing in place.

 

He met Staff Group for Technology Transfer & Security Research of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation & Technology Head Gernot Grimm on e-government and information and communications technology strategies.

 

At a spotlight session at the Pioneers Festival - a major annual event for future technologies and entrepreneurship in Austria - Mr Yang joined a panel discussion on the globalisation of start-up ecosystems.

 

He then met the festival's Co-founder & Chief Executive Officer Andreas Tschas.

 

Officiating at an Invest Hong Kong reception at the festival, Mr Yang encouraged Austrian businesses to take advantage of Hong Kong's gateway role to reach the vast Mainland and Asian markets.
