FS urges interim funding approval

March 16, 2016

Financial Secretary John Tsang has urged legislators to pass the Government's interim funding resolution to cover its expenditure in the run up to the 2016-17 Budget being approved.

Mr Tsang told reporters today it is important for the Legislative Council to pass the resolution before the new fiscal year starts on April 1.

He said LegCo should fully realise how important the funding is for livelihood spending on welfare, medical, education and security services from April 1, adding that the expenditure includes Comprehensive Social Security Assistance payments and funds for the Hospital Authority, the University Grants Committee and the Vocational Training Council.

Mr Tsang noted that it is the Government's usual practice to move a resolution for interim funding to maintain its services until the Appropriation Bill to adopt the Budget is passed.
