Consumer prices up 3.1%

July 21, 2015

Overall consumer prices rose 3.1% year on year in June, up from May's 3% increase, the Census & Statistics Department announced today.

Netting out the effects of all Government one-off relief measures, the underlying inflation rate was 2.6%, the same as that in May.

Year-on-year increases were recorded for electricity, gas and water, housing, meals bought away from home, food, miscellaneous services and miscellaneous goods.

Year-on-year decreases were recorded for durable goods, clothing and footwear, and alcohol and tobacco.

The department noted that inflation was largely stable in June.

Looking ahead, given the mild imported inflation and the local economy's modest growth pace, consumer price pressures should remain contained in the near term, it added.
