The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer has launched a two-day Digital Inclusion Mobile App Exhibition at the Central Harbourfront Event Space to showcase mobile apps developed by social service organisations.

Acting Government Chief Information Officer Victor Lam said today the Government has launched two rounds of a support scheme on the development of digital inclusion mobile applications in 2012-13 and 2014-15 to encourage social service organisations to develop easy-to-use mobile apps that provide practical information and services to the underprivileged.

In the second round of the scheme, five mobile apps were given support to provide information and services that cater for the practical needs of different user groups.

They include apps helping dyslexic children learn the structure of Chinese characters, teaching visually-impaired children basic mathematics, providing articulation assessment and training for children with hearing impairment, providing people beset with dementia with brain training exercises and tools for seeking emergency assistance, and assisting people with hearing impairment to communicate in sign language by using instant messaging applications on smart phones.
