Economy, tourism balance needed

February 24, 2015

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So has said a careful balance must be struck between Hong Kong's economic development and its capacity to receive tourists.

Speaking to reporters today, Mr So said the multiple visit scheme for Shenzhen residents is a Mainland policy and any changes, including reducing the number of visits allowed, must be discussed with the relevant Mainland authorities.

He added that it was not an easy balancing act allowing tourists to have an enjoyable experience in Hong Kong, while not imposing too much burden on the livelihoods of Hong Kong people.
