Hong Kong took part in the City of London Lord Mayor's Show for the tenth year yesterday with a float showcasing its popular kung fu movies and stars, including Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
The centrepiece of Hong Kong's entry in the parade was a larger-than-life statue of Lee, doing his signature high kick. The float featured a lorry decked out like a film set, with cameras, film canisters and clapperboards. Around the lorry were six Shaolin kung fu masters showing their moves.
Hong Kong’s Economic & Trade Office in London devised the float. The office’s Director-General Erica Ng said the design shows that as well as being one of the world's most forward-looking, business-focused cities, Hong Kong is also home to a vibrant and thriving creative sector.
"While Hong Kong may be small - with just over seven million people - we have been notably blessed with film industry talent. Kung fu movies have been indelibly linked with the city for a long time, from the movies of the Shaw Brothers to those featuring renowned kung fu stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Sammo Hung and Lau Kar-leung,” she said.
