Gregory So meets tourism sector

October 10, 2014

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So hosted a meeting today with representatives from the tourism and hotel sectors to listen to their views on the impact of the Occupy Central movement on Hong Kong's tourism industry.

The representatives said the movement has already affected business at hotels and tourist attractions. They are worried it will affect the livelihood of frontline employees and reduce the number of visitors.

It will inevitably hurt the future development of the tourism industry in Hong Kong, they said.

Mr So said he understands their concerns, noting tourism is one of the city’s pillar industries and he hopes all Hong Kong people treasure the city's economic achievements and refrain from causing a negative impact on the tourism industry.

He said he will stay in contact with the tourism sector to understand its situation and needs.
