Gregory So scopes out cinema

June 16, 2014

The Government will formulate initiatives to encourage cinema patronage for local movies to promote the local film industry's development, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said today.

Mr So visited the Metroplex cinema in Kowloon Bay to see the latest projection equipment and audio systems which could enhance audience experience.

He also watched a movie trailer to experience the effects of 3D films and the latest extra-high definition 4K films.

Mr So learned that, apart from mainstream films, the cinema also screens movies from film festivals, independent films and special feature films.

One of the theatres is also equipped with a stage and dressing rooms, which are suitable for staging film events such as premiere and appreciation activities to help promote the local film industry's development.

The diverse film genres screened at the cinema can attract a wider audience spectrum while appreciation sessions will help promote film culture, Mr So said.
