ExCo studying TV applications

May 29, 2012
Free-TV licence applications are being processed by the Executive Council in accordance with procedure.

Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So said today the Broadcasting Authority conducted a public consultation on the free-TV licence in 2010 and submitted suggestions to the Executive Council.

The council will consider if any more consultation is needed, and if yes, to what extent and scope it should be conducted.

On the competition bill, Mr So said an independent competition commission should be formed. The bill will list out the scope of the commission's work, as well as its comprising members, who will be from various industries and with different backgrounds to ensure fairness.

Mr So reiterated the copyright amendment bill will not compress the freedom of speech. He said that currently, there exists no prosecution cases regarding parody. For acts not infringing existing laws, the situation will remain the same after the amendment.
