May 15, 2012
The Hong Kong Economic, Trade & Cultural Office officially opened in Taipei today, signifying a new milestone in Hong Kong-Taiwan relations.

Financial Secretary John Tsang officiated at the opening ceremony and announced that Taiwanese travellers will be able to register online to visit Hong Kong from September 1.

Applicants will be notified of the result instantly. After successful registration, they can visit Hong Kong with a registration notification slip and a valid travel document for re-entry to Taiwan. The registration is valid for two entries in two months, with a stay of 30 days on each entry.

Mr Tsang said following the official opening of the office in Taiwan, exchanges and co-operation between the two places will become even closer on the economic, trade and cultural fronts.

He said the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic & Cultural Co-operation & Promotion Council and the Taiwan-Hong Kong Economic & Cultural Co-operation Council made fruitful achievements in various aspects over the past two years, including the promotion of trade and cultural exchange.

"With the efforts of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade & Cultural Office, Hong Kong and Taiwan will continue to make progress in all areas of co-operation, achieving a win-win situation," Mr Tsang said.

Director of the Hong Kong Economic, Trade & Cultural Office John Leung said the office is committed to promoting the long-term development of closer economic and cultural relations between Hong Kong and Taiwan.

"We will promote Hong Kong-Taiwan economic ties in areas such as investment, financial services and business exchange, while enhancing exchanges in culture, education, healthcare, tourism and other fields. We will also seek to promote the image of Hong Kong," Mr Leung said.
