May 14, 2012
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So continued his Japanese visit in Sendai today by inspecting repair works to damage caused by last year's earthquake and tsunami.

He met Miyagi Prefecture Governor Yoshihiro Murai, conveying Hong Kong people's regards to those affected by the disaster and praising their efforts to resume a normal life. Mr Murai thanked Hong Kong people for their generosity and kindness in the wake of the tragedy.

Mr So visited Nakano Elementary School, which was badly damaged by the tsunami. He then went to Nakano Sakae Elementary School, where 86 students are temporarily housed for study.

Tomorrow Mr So will deliver keynote speeches at the "Think Global, Think Hong Kong" Symposium organised by the Trade Development Council and the Creative Asia Forum, which was launched by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Tokyo.

He will also visit the Tian Tian Xiang Shang exhibition, which is an exchange project showcasing creative pieces by designers and students of Hong Kong and Japan.

Mr So will later attend a luncheon held by the Japan-Hong Kong Parliamentarian League.
