Gregory So to visit Japan

May 13, 2012
Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Gregory So will visit Japan for five days to promote Hong Kong's co-operation with the country in bilateral trade, tourism and creative industries, and to see the recovery progress following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Mr So will meet with senior Japanese officials to exchange views on Hong Kong-Japan co-operation and bilateral relationships.

He will deliver keynote speeches at the "Think Global, Think Hong Kong" Symposium in Tokyo and Osaka, and at a dinner organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in Tokyo.

Mr So will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Chinese Food Exhibition 2012. He will visit the "Tian Tian Xiang Shang" statue exhibition in Tokyo, and deliver an opening speech at the Creative Asia Forum. He will also visit Nissan Motor Company's Yokohama headquarters.

To learn more about the recovery efforts the Japanese government and people have made following the damage from last year's earthquake and tsunami, Mr So will also visit the Sendai Airport and a school in the city, and meet with senior officials of the Miyagi Prefecture and Sendai City Government.

He left today and will return to Hong Kong on May 17.
