MK junction to be revamped

February 10, 2012
The Urban Renewal Authority today launched statutory planning procedures for redeveloping 20 street numbers of buildings at the junction of Reclamation and Shantung Streets in Mong Kok.

Acquisition and rehousing is expected to cost $1.02 billion. Adding construction, interest and other costs to the budget, the total development cost is projected to reach $1.76 billion.

The authority plans to redevelop the site to provide 168 flats of 35 to 65 square metres each. It is tentatively scheduled for completion by 2019-20.

Redevelopment is required due to the buildings' dilapidated condition. They are about 50 years old.

The move will improve the living environment of 300 households.

The authority will conduct a two-month consultation. A site plan delineating the boundary of the project plus a general description will be put on display at the authority's headquarters, its offices on Yim Po Fong Street and the Mong Kok Government Offices.

Social impact assessment reports will also be made available.
