The mean temperature last month was 29 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees higher than normal, making it one of the hottest Septembers in Hong Kong since records began in 1884.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the month was drier than usual with 192.4mm of rainfall, about 59% of the normal figure.
The accumulated rainfall since January was 9% above normal.
