The Leisure & Cultural Services Department today removed an old and valuable tree in Mong Kok to ensure public safety.

Infected with brown root rot disease, the 13-metre-tall Chinese banyan tree in Luen Wan Street sitting-out area was at risk of collapsing.

The department decided to remove the tree after consulting the Development Bureau's Tree Management Office and the Urban Forestry Advisory Panel.
