22 beaches rated 'good'

August 25, 2017

The Environmental Protection Department has rated water quality at 22 beaches 'good', 15 'fair' and one 'poor' for this weekend.

Cafeteria New Beach, Clear Water Bay Second Beach, Golden Beach, Kadoorie Beach, Ma Wan Tung Wan Beach, Middle Bay Beach and Turtle Cove Beach received a better grading than last week, moving up from 'fair' to 'good', while Big Wave Bay Beach was upgraded from 'poor' to 'fair'.

The department said as Typhoon Hato brought adverse weather to Hong Kong on August 23, beaches are likely to be more polluted than their grades suggest.

It advised the public not to swim at beaches for several days following a typhoon or heavy rainfall.
