The Environmental Protection Department recorded 59 convictions for pollution offences in March.

Three were for air pollution, six for noise pollution, four for failing to charge customers for plastic shopping bags, 45 for waste disposal, and one for water pollution.

The heaviest penalty handed down in the month was a $50,000 fine against a clinic which disposed of clinical waste improperly.
