Fine issued for waste discharge

January 10, 2017

A livestock farm owner was fined $40,000 at Fanling Magistracy today for discharging livestock waste illegally, contravening the Waste Disposal Ordinance.

Environmental Protection Department officers found the farm in Tai Kong Po, Yuen Long, discharged livestock waste into a nearby river via a concealed pipe, seriously polluting the water quality of Kam Tin River.

The department initiated prosecution against the owner after an investigation.

It reminded livestock farmers to lawfully dispose of livestock waste and make good use of the free solid livestock waste collection service the department provides.
