January 09, 2017

A 43-year-old man was jailed today for eight weeks by West Kowloon Magistry and fined $100,000 for smuggling worked ivory.

The Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department said the man arrived in Hong Kong from Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on January 7.

Twenty-six kilograms of worked ivory was found in his luggage.
