Water works:  Director of Water Supplies Enoch Lam (centre) officiates at the Quality Water Supply Scheme for Buildings certificate presentation ceremony.

The Water Supplies Department held a certificate presentation ceremony for the Quality Water Supply Scheme for Buildings today.

The scheme commends property owners and management companies for the proper maintenance of internal plumbing systems.

Speaking at the ceremony, Director of Water Supplies Enoch Lam said the scheme includes testing for heavy metals in water and has an expanded scope of water sampling to enhance water quality assurance for buildings.

About 700 certificates have been awarded under the scheme which launched last December.

About 1,500 certificates have been issued under the scheme for flushing water, which was introduced in 2014.

The two schemes cover 100,000 and 330,000 water accounts.

The department also held the Zero Waste in Trades Forum and the Launching Ceremony of the Best Practice Guidelines for Water Usage for the catering and hotel industries today.

Participants, including representatives from the environmental protection, waterworks, catering, hotel and construction sectors, shared their professional knowledge and insight on water conservation and environmental protection.
