3K join green education scheme

January 29, 2016

Secretary for the Environment KS Wong has applauded the success of a pilot campaign to promote a "use less, waste less" culture among children.

More than 3,000 students and parents have joined the campaign which disseminates the low-carbon-living message of “use less, waste less”.

Mr Wong said it is a good start to promoting environmental education at the pre-primary level.

Nurseries and kindergartens joining the campaign have been given a waste reduction education pack and a motion-sensing three-colour recycling bin specially designed to help teachers give environmental education. About 120 teachers have been trained to use the education pack.

Mr Wong also launched the Kid’s Greenway project today to boost teachers' ability to develop school-based environmental curricula and raise pre-primary students' environmental awareness.

The project will provide two teaching packs for children of different age groups, establish a Teacher Resources Bank on waste reduction and recycling, and provide training programmes for teachers.
