The Government today gazetted a proposed fee increase for vehicle emission tests at designated testing centres from August 1.
The current fee of $310 was set on a full cost recovery basis in 1998 and has not been revised since then.
The new fees will reflect the prevailing costs for serving different types of vehicle.
The Environmental Protection Department said the higher fees will not affect vehicle owners who properly maintain their vehicles, but for those who overlook vehicle maintenance and are subject to this emission test, the proposed increase can be a deterrent to negligence.
The proposed fee hike will be tabled at the Legislative Council on May 20 to come into effect on August 1.
