Five fixed penalty tickets have been issued to retail outlets not complying with the plastic shopping bag charging requirement since May 1.
Secretary for the Environment KS Wong told reporters today the contraventions included providing free plastic bags for non-foodstuff items and airtight food.
Mr Wong said undercover officers will be deployed to check whether retail outlets are following the regulation. The department will also step up publicity on the new measures.
On the Government's air pollution policies, Mr Wong said priority should be put on cleaning-up tail-end emissions from cars, ships and power plants. The Environment Bureau is boosting collaboration with the Guangdong government to tackle the issue.
The Government will also review town planning and related issues to help solve the problem, he added.
