More than 170 schools have participated in a programme to recycle used computers and other waste electrical equipment.

The Environmental Protection Department’s “Schools Recycle WEEE” programme was launched last year and aims to raise awareness of waste reduction and recycling at schools.

A total of 172 schools took part and recovered over more than 7,700 pieces of used equipment, that's 40% more compared to last year.

The department had helped schools organise promotional activities for the scheme and arranged collection of the equipment during October and November.

The items were distributed to the Caritas-HK Computer workshop, WEEE Go Green, the Computer Recycling Programme and the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Programme for proper treatment.
