The Hong Kong Observatory has signed the Co-operation Agreement in Meteorological Science & Technology with the Guangdong Meteorological Bureau.
Observatory Director Shun Chi-ming and Acting Director-General of the bureau Zou Jianjun signed the agreement after the Hong Kong-Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference in Guangzhou today.
The agreement boosts exchanges in areas such as numerical prediction modelling, weather forecasting and warning, climate change study, and atmospheric measurements.
Mr Shun said Hong Kong and Guangdong’s meteorological co-operation started in the 1980s with the establishment of automatic weather stations to enhance observation.
Signing of the agreement presents opportunities for broader and deeper collaboration between the two sides to provide even higher quality weather services to the public, Mr Shun said.
