Landfill fund committee set up
June 19, 2014
The Environment Bureau has set up a steering committee to advise the Government on a funding scheme to revitalise restored landfills.
Secretary for the Environment KS Wong and the new committee’s chairman and members today visited a restored landfill in Ngau Chi Wan in Wong Tai Sin, which is now a public park.
Speaking to the media after the visit, Mr Wong said the committee’s advice will help the Government to select proposed projects for recreational facilities or other community uses that can demonstrate financial sustainability, to make best use of $1 billion in funds earmarked for the scheme. Chief Executive CY Leung announced the funding in his 2014 Policy Address.
Applications are expected to be opened to non-profit making organisations and national sports associations at the end of this year.
