Lamma oil spill probed

The Marine Department is investigating oil slicks found at Tung O Wan, Lamma Island.
 
A 10m x 15m slick was reported in waters off Tung O Wan on June 21, and a 100m x 15m slick was seen on Tung O Wan beach.
 
The department cleaned small oil patches off Tung O Wan on June 22 and 23, and will send samples of the oil to the Government Laboratory for analysis.
 
Agriculture, Fisheries & Conservation Department staff patrolled waters around Lamma Island at the weekend and found no signs of spillage at other sites, including Sham Wan, which is a primary nesting site for green turtles.
 
Mariculturists in the Sok Kwu Wan and Lo Tik Wan fish culture zones have reported no irregularities.
 
The Food & Environmental Hygiene Department has sent staff to clear sand contaminated by the oil at Tung O Wan beach.
 
The Government will monitor the situation.
