500 more charging stations to open

Five-hundred charging stations for electric vehicles will be installed by the Government for public use by the end of June.
 
Together with standard charging facilities installed by the private sector, the total number of charging stations will reach 1,000 citywide.
 
Financial Secretary John Tsang officiated at a launch ceremony for government charging points in the Star Ferry government car park today.
 
There will be charging facilities in 18 government car parks across Hong Kong by the end of June.
 
There are now more than 310 electric vehicles in Hong Kong, as compared to 74 in 2010.
 
"To promote the use of electric vehicles it is essential to put in place a comprehensive public EV charging network. The 1,000 charging stations will be located in the 18 districts territory-wide," Mr Tsang said.
 
In addition to the standard charging facilities, the number of quick chargers in Hong Kong will be increased from five to 10 by the end of this year.
 
Mr Tsang said the Government will introduce more electric vehicles to its fleet. At present, there are 33 of various models. In the coming months an extra 42 electric vehicles will be delivered to various government departments.
 
The Government also plans to procure more than 140 new electric vehicles of different types in this financial year.
